Winter is coming, here are some tips for maintaining AGV lithium batteries~
Release Date:2024 / 01 / 13
As we all know, AGVs are powered by batteries. Currently, most AGVs or unmanned transport robots use lithium batteries as their power source. AGV lithium batteries have advantages such as high kinetic energy, small size, light weight, environmental friendliness, and no memory effect. However, temperature has a significant impact on AGV batteries. With winter approaching, to ensure lithium batteries perform optimally, it is essential to maintain and care for AGV batteries properly. So, how should AGV batteries be maintained and cared for in winter? Let's take a look!
01. Indoor Charging, Avoiding Low Temperatures
In the generally cold winter, place the AGV in a cool, dry, and safe indoor environment. Ensure the AGV is away from hazardous materials such as corrosive chemicals and dangerous machinery. Charge indoors whenever possible, avoiding low-temperature environments. It is not recommended to place the AGV outdoors, as harsh outdoor environments or excessively low temperatures can damage the battery.
02. Charge as Needed, Shallow Discharge and Charge
Lower temperatures reduce battery activity, significantly decreasing the charging and discharging efficiency of AGV batteries. This easily leads to over-discharge and over-charge, which can shorten battery life or even cause fires. Therefore, in winter, it is crucial to charge using shallow discharge and shallow charge methods. The battery should also be kept fully charged in winter. A fully discharged AGV lithium battery should be recharged within 24 hours to extend battery life. Leaving the AGV completely empty can damage the internal cells of the lithium battery, and this damage is irreversible.
03 Correct Charging Method
Proper charging is essential. Connect the charging adapter to the lithium battery, then connect the adapter's power plug to a power source and turn on the power. Using the correct charging method is a crucial aspect of battery maintenance.
04 Compatible Charging Stations
The AGV's charging station should be compatible with the lithium battery. Using an incompatible charger may cause a short circuit when current flows through the lithium battery, potentially leading to a lithium battery safety incident. This is detrimental to AGV battery maintenance, unsafe, and poses a threat to personal safety. If your charger is not working properly, it is recommended to contact the official supplier to purchase a genuine charger to ensure charging quality.
05 Maintenance Even When Not in Use
In winter, the battery should be kept fully charged to extend its lifespan. If the battery is not used for an extended period, it is best to charge it monthly to prevent self-discharge of the AGV lithium battery, which can damage the battery structure and reduce the battery cycle life. If an AGV vehicle cannot be charged after being left idle for an extended period, you can start the vehicle and run it slowly without load for a while (about 15 minutes), known as "warming up," before charging. In cold weather, as battery activity may decrease, it is recommended not to wait until the low battery warning light comes on before charging; try to charge it earlier.
